Electrical first and second fix

First and second fix electrical work carried out to BS 7671, with the installation certificate ready before anyone switches anything on.

Why it matters

First fix runs the cabling and containment before walls and ceilings close up; second fix fits the accessories, fittings and final connections once they're back open. Both stages have to follow BS 7671, and the installation is tested and certified before it's handed over, with an Electrical Installation Certificate (EIC) confirming the work is safe to energise.

ILUX runs both stages to the fit-out programme, so electrical work isn't the trade holding up the ceiling closing.

What's included

  • First fix cabling and containment installed to BS 7671, ahead of ceiling and wall closure
  • Second fix accessories, fittings and final connections once the space is ready
  • Distribution boards and circuit protection sized and installed to the design
  • Testing and inspection carried out before any circuit is energised
  • Electrical Installation Certificate (EIC) issued at handover
  • As-built drawings and schedules handed over with the certificate

Where a fit out has a fixed programme, first fix is scheduled to hit the point every other trade is waiting on: ceilings closing.

Data

Data cabling usually runs alongside power.

Power and data first fix are normally scheduled together so containment is shared and ceilings close once, not twice.

Certification you can rely on

Every EIC issued is held in your portal alongside the site's other records, so a later EICR or insurance query has the original certificate to check against.

Common questions.

What's the difference between first and second fix?

First fix is cabling and containment before walls and ceilings close. Second fix is fittings, sockets and final connections once they're back open.

Do we get a certificate for the whole installation?

Yes, an Electrical Installation Certificate covering the completed works, issued at handover and held in your portal.

Can first fix be scheduled around other trades?

Yes, it's normally the trade everything else waits on before ceilings close, so it's sequenced early in the programme.

Certified before switch-on.
